Sven Schubert joined Vontobel in July 2011. Since 2024, he is Head of Macro Research in the Research Alpha team within Quantitative Investments. Before that he was Currency Specialist and Emerging Markets Economist.

Prior to joining Votobel, he worked at Credit Suisse for over six years in various roles, including as an emerging markets and currency strategist. In 2005, he joined the PhD program of Credit Suisse and worked as an emerging markets economist. From 2000 to 2004, he held various positions at Dresdner Bank, Deutsches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (DIW Berlin), and Max-Planck-Institut. He started his career in 1997 with an apprenticeship at Dresdner Bank.

Sven holds a Master’s degree and a PhD in Economics from Freie Universität Berlin.

Vescore Global Market Outlook October 2023

The September Fed meeting was a surprise with its hawkish tilt which went hand in hand with upward GDP forecast revisions and lower recession risks. The question now is whether the Fed's willingness to keep rates 'higher for longer' is a calculated risk in combating inflation or a policy misstep. Our models estimate that a recession may not be immediate but cannot be ruled out, especially for H1 2024. In response, they continue to reduce their equity overweight as well as their bond underweight.
