Thomas Schaffner joined Vontobel in 2009. Since 2011, he is Portfolio Manager in the mtx team within Conviction Equities. He manages the mtx strategies Sustainable Emerging Markets Leaders, Sustainable Asian Leaders (ex Japan), Emerging Markets Leaders ex China, and China A-Shares Leaders. Previously, he was Equity Analyst covering Asian companies.
Prior to joining Vontobel, from 2006, he was an equity analyst at Lombard Odier in Hong Kong, covering regional Asian companies (ex Japan) and contributing to the investment strategy. Previously, he was a portfolio manager at Credit Suisse and an independent asset manager in Basel, where he developed and successfully managed a commodity fund. He started his career in the financial industry in 1998.
Thomas holds a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in China Business from the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting & Finance from the University of Applied Sciences in Basel. He is also a CFA® charterholder.
