Matthias Fawer joined Vontobel in 2016. As ESG & Impact Analyst in the Impact & Thematic Investing team within Conviction Equities, he evaluates companies’ ESG ratings and controversies and, together with the equity analysts, assesses the companies’ exposure to critical businesses. In addition, he coordinates proxy voting and direct engagement activities with the firms. He authors the annual Impact Reports on several funds and other publications on topics related to ESG and impact investing.

Prior to joining Vontobel, since 2013, he held similar roles at Notenstein Privatbank AG and Vescore AG (integrated in Vontobel in 2016). From 2000, he was a sustainability analyst at Bank J. Safra Sarasin. From 1992, he worked in the ecology department at EMPA (Swiss federal laboratories for materials science and technology) as a lead expert for environmental life-cycle assessment on behalf of Swiss and European industry associations.

Matthias holds a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences and a PhD from the Institute of Biotechnology of ETH Zurich.
