Matthias Fawer joined Vontobel Asset Management in autumn 2016. As an ESG & Impact Analyst, he is evaluating companies’ ESG ratings and controversies and assesses their involvements in critical businesses together with the equity analysts. In addition, he coordinates proxy voting and direct engagement activities. Matthias authors the annual Impact Reports for a number of funds and publications on various ESG and Impact topics.
Before joining Vontobel, since 2013, he held similar roles at Vescore AG and Notenstein Privatbank AG (acquired by Vontobel in 2016). From 2000 to 2013, he was a sustainability analyst at Bank J. Safra Sarasin. Since 2002, he has authored studies on solar energy and renewable energies and delivered lectures at various conventions. From 1992 to 2000, he worked in the ecology department of EMPA (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology) as senior expert for environmental life-cycle assessment on behalf of Swiss and European industry associations. In 1996/97, he spent an exchange year with Boustead Consulting in the UK.
Matthias holds a Masters' degree in Natural Sciences and a PhD from the Institute of Biotechnology at the ETH Zurich.
